Establish an Association

Installation of the Nashville Alumnae ChapterIn addition to the establishment of alumnae chapters, the National Organization has created other local alumnae associations. The structure of the Alpha Sigma Tau alumnae organization allows alumnae members flexibility in becoming involved on the local level. Below is a brief description of the types of local alumnae associations available to be organized:

Alumnae Chapter

An alumnae chapter is made up of seven or more members who meet at least seven times per year and achieve one of the Alumnae Chapter Excellence levels. A chapter must complete the following requirements to be in good standing nationally:
  • conduct a minimum of seven meetings each year
  • pay national alumnae dues
  • submit required reports
  • observe Founders Day
  • support a local philanthropy
  • work with a collegiate chapter or colony
A chapter is officially installed after submitting a signed petition from participating alumnae and fulfilling requirements as a hope group.

Alumnae Club

An alumnae club is composed of four to six alumnae. Clubs hold a minimum of four meetings, including a Founders Day celebration, during each year. The officers of each alumnae club shall be as follows: President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and Program Chairman. The National President shall formally recognize this group as a club after receiving a signed petition from the participating alumnae. An alumnae club shall be responsible for the completion of the following reports: Alumnae Dues, Association Mid-Year Report, and Association Annual Report.

Alumnae Social Team

An alumnae social team is a group of alumnae in a specific area who meet two to four times per year on a social basis. The National President shall formally recognize this group as a social team after receiving a signed petition from the participating alumnae. A social team shall be responsible for the completion of the following reports: Alumnae Dues (unless individual alumnae send their dues separately) and Association Annual Report.

Alumnae Support Team

An alumnae support team is a group of alumnae who meet and function to support a collegiate chapter or colony with recruitment, training, finances, or a collegiate extension effort. The National President shall formally recognize this group as a support team after receiving a signed petition from the participating alumnae. The support team shall be responsible for the completion of the following reports: Alumnae Dues and Association Annual Report.

Alumnae Hope Group

An alumnae hope group is composed of alumnae in a specific area who have expressed interest in meeting together with their goal to become an alumnae chapter, club, social team, or support team. A hope group is given twelve to eighteen months from its first organizational meeting to decide whether it wishes to become an organized alumnae chapter, alumnae club, alumnae social team, or alumnae support team. A hope group is expected to pay national alumnae dues and complete hope group report forms after each meeting. When a hope group decides to become a club, social team, or support team, the group is officially recognized after submitting a signed petition from the participating alumnae to the national organization. When a hope group decides to become an alumnae chapter, the group submits a signed petition from the participating alumnae to the national organization. The petitioned alumnae chapter continues to operate to fulfill the requirements of an alumnae chapter, and with approval of the Alumnae Expansion Coordinator, sets an installation date. When a hope group decides to petition the national organization to become one of the other alumnae associations, the group can review the instructions of the Alumnae Association Petition Report. A copy of the form will be sent to the hope group upon request from the Alumnae Expansion Coordinator.
