Establish a Chapter

Alpha Epsilon ChapterAlpha Sigma Tau is the sorority that will take you to unexpected places and will introduce you to exceptional people. Alpha Sigma Tau is the sorority that will take you on the journey of a lifetime. The voyage is filled with a commitment to scholarship, service to those in need, guideposts to personal and professional enrichment, leadership opportunities, and most importantly, the unique relationship among our members - our Sisterhood.

Intrigued by the spirit of our Sisterhood? We invite you to explore our bonds that reach far beyond just being close friends. Alpha Sigma Tau is a lacework of intellect, heart, and spirit. Founded over a century ago by eight like-minded women, Alpha Sigma Tau is a blend of distinctive hearts committed to the progress of mankind and the advancement of its members. Alpha Sigma Tau strives to help each member develop and unfold her true potential as an individual and as a member of a national network of diverse women.

The Colonization Process

Alpha Sigma Tau has a dynamic colonization program. Each colony is provided with a support system which will result in strong chapters. Trained officers provide members with guidance from colonization through chapter installation and the future. All colonies are assisted through this process by a Colony Adviser, an Educational Consultant, local collegians and alumnae, and trained local advisers and consultants. All collegiate chapters are regularly visited and assisted by a Collegiate Leadership Consultant, District Presidents, Regional Collegiate Coordinators and trained local chapter advisers, assistant advisers, and consultants.

Extension Possibilities

Extension refers to the exciting process of chartering a collegiate chapter. Alpha Sigma Tau receives inquiries about extension from university Panhellenic associations, local sororities seeking national affiliation, and individual students and alumnae. Each inquiry is researched thoroughly and presented to the National Council, with consideration given to the following criteria:

  • Academic reputation of the school
  • Stable or increasing school enrollment
  • Interest in Greek life on campus
  • Support and interest on the part of local alumnae and local chapters
  • Support from the campus administration and/or college Panhellenic support for a new chapter

A new chapter needs national support and guidance to provide a quality experience for its members and ensure that the chapter is a strong and contributing part of the campus community. Significant time, money, and effort are given by the national organization and local alumnae to build a strong foundation for a new chapter.

Further Inquiry

Alpha Sigma Tau adheres to guidelines established by the National Panhellenic Conference regarding orderly expansion procedures. The Sorority can express interest in colonization by filing a letter of interest with a college or university, but we are unable to contact students unless the campus is officially open for extension. Alpha Sigma Tau embraces the opportunity to share with you the programs and traditions that our Sorority holds dear.
