Risk Management

The purpose of Alpha Sigma Tau's risk management education is to assist chapters and members in reducing risks while having fun and is not intended to eliminate fun chapter activities. Risk is a part of our everyday lives, when we step out of the shower or get in a car. Risk is something that we all manage when we look both ways before crossing the street or plan activities following risk reduction procedures. While we can not eliminate risk, we must all work together to reduce risk in a manner that exhibits our care and concern for the health and safety of our members, guests, campus, community, and the Sorority.

All new members, initiated members, and alumnae members must take personal responsibility for their actions to help ensure the safety of others and the Sorority.

  • Alpha Sigma Tau members, collegians and alumnae, must follow the FIPG and Alpha Sigma Tau Policies regarding risk management.
  • Alpha Sigma Tau requires each new member and initiated member to annually read the Alpha Sigma Tau Policy and Position Statements each year and sign the PPS Form indicating that they have read, understand, and will abide by theses policies.
  • Alpha Sigma Tau provides risk management information to our alumnae for their education so that they can continue to support our chapter's efforts in managing risk.
  • Alpha Sigma Tau requires chapters to conduct at least one substance abuse awareness program each year.
  • Alpha Sigma Tau, in working with FIPG and our insurance provider, have developed the Alpha Sigma Tau Crisis Management Plan to assist chapters and members when an incident or crisis occurs. Collegiate chapters must review this plan at the beginning of each semester/term and post current Crisis Procedures by the main phones in Sorority houses and place copies in officer notebooks.

The Alpha Sigma Tau Crisis Management Plan is used when the chapter or members are involved in:

  • Alpha Sigma Tau or university policy violations (alcohol, hazing, Internet, etc.)
  • Accidents (injury at an Alpha Sigma Tau event or on Alpha Sigma Tau property, etc.)
  • Emergencies (property damage, fire, break-ins, etc.)
  • Tragedies (death or severe injury)

Risk management tools are created to help chapters to prevent incidents and to guide if an incident should occur.

Hazing Prevention

If any new member, initiated member, alumna, non-member or campus administrator suspects a potential hazing situation with any chapter or colony of Alpha Sigma Tau, she or he is invited to contact the Sorority on our national caller identity-protected anti-hazing hotline at
1-888-NOT-HAZE.
