Awards & Recognition

In an effort to encourage and maintain high standards among not only alumnae and collegiate chapters but also individual sisters, the Sorority has established an extensive awards program. Deserving chapters and individuals are honored for their achievements. Awards are presented at National Convention.

Information associated with the 2010 Convention Awards Nominations procedures may be found in the Alpha Sigma Tau Members Only Officer Resource Site. This year debuts a fully electronic submission process. Nominations are due February 15, 2010!

Awards

  • Alumnae Top Tau Award
    Presented annually to a member of each alumnae chapter chosen by the membership of that chapter for outstanding service and commitment to her chapter and the Sorority.
  • Collegiate Top Tau Award
    Presented annually to a member of each chapter, nominated by the membership of that chapter for her academic achievement, participation in campus activities, and service to the Sorority.
  • Elizabeth Wilson Award for Chapter Excellence
    Presented annually to the collegiate chapters achieving the highest percentage on the Collegiate Chapter Excellence Program and to the alumnae chapters and clubs achieving one level of the Alumnae Chapter Excellence Program.
  • 4.0 Award
    Presented to each collegiate member who achieves a 4.0 semester/term scholastic average.
  • Music Award
    Presented annually to collegiate chapters submitting the best songs in categories stipulated by the Music Coordinator.
  • Scholarship Award
    Presented annually to the collegiate chapter achieving the highest grade point average.
  • The Pearls of Alpha Sigma Tau Award
    Presented to recognize alumnae who have given special contributions within their communities and/or professions.

Convention Awards

  • Ada A. Norton Award
    Presented to alumnae for outstanding long-time national service to the Sorority.
  • Anchor Award
    Presented to outstanding alumnae who have given exceptional dedication and faithful service to their alumnae chapter and community for a minimum of five years. It is presented only to those alumnae who are not presently serving on the National Staff.
  • Carrie W. Staehle Award
    Presented to the Chapter Adviser(s), chosen from alumnae, for exceptional service to collegiate chapters and to the Sorority.
  • District Excellence Awards
    Presented to a collegiate chapter in each district which has made the greatest improvement in its Chapter Excellence Program rating.
  • Helen R. Garman Award
    Presented to the Chapter Adviser who is a faculty member for outstanding service to the collegiate chapter and to the Sorority.
  • Margaret M. Macdonald Convention Belle Award
    Presented to members who have attended three or more National Conventions.
  • Mary Louise Doyle Panhellenic Award
    Presented to the alumna(e), collegian(s), alumnae chapter(s), and/or collegiate chapter(s) for exceptional Panhellenic service which exceeds expectations.
  • National Excellence Improvement Award
    Presented to the collegiate chapter which has made the greatest improvement in its Chapter Excellence Program rating.
  • National Membership Improvement Award
    Presented to the collegiate chapter which has made the greatest gain in membership.
  • Order of the Yellow Rose
    Presented to alumnae who have completed a special project or given long, faithful service to the Sorority.
  • Scrapbook Award
    Presented to the collegiate and alumnae chapters exhibiting the best scrapbook that conforms to the established criteria.
  • Alumnae Convention Top Tau
    Presented to the alumna(e) chosen as the most outstanding alumna(e) attending the Convention.
  • Collegiate Convention Top Tau
    Presented to the collegian chosen(s) chosen as the most outstanding collegian(s) attending the Convention.
  • Thomas J. King, Jr. Award
    Presented to a non-member who has contributed in an exceptional manner to Alpha Sigma Tau and her members for an extended period of time.
  • McCrory Order of Interfraternity Excellence
    Presented to honor an individual who has contributed outstanding service to the betterment of the Greek system.

Sorority Recognitions

  • Anniversary
    Gifts presented or announced at each Convention to collegiate and alumnae chapters on their 10th, 25th, and every subsequent 25th anniversary.
  • Fifty-Year Membership Certificate
    Presented to a member who has reached her fiftieth year of membership.

Order of the Open Book

The Order of the Open Book is a national academic honor society within Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority formed to recognize and promote academic achievement and scholarly excellence and to continue to foster the high ideals of Alpha Sigma Tau.
