Volunteer

National Convention 2006The opportunity to volunteer is a special and worthwhile way to honor initiation vows. Volunteering is challenging, stimulating, rewarding, and ever-changing. Serving as a volunteer allows sisters to step beyond chapter ties to become part of a larger circle of sisterhood within Alpha Sigma Tau. Because of women like you who are leaders, philanthropists, scholars, and willing to share with the next generation of sisters, Alpha Sigma Tau continues to improve the lives of sisters and communities.

Alpha Sigma Tau is searching for qualified, dedicated volunteers. If you are willing to give of your time and talents to assist the Sorority in living its values while remaining relevant to the world today, this is the place for you!

If you are considering volunteering, please read what other alumnae have to say about their experiences.

I love being involved. I love seeing the collegiate women being immersed in AST and having a say in her policies. I love being with my fellow alumnae women who get their energy from the collegians. Young and old, we come together, sharing a common bond and special sisterhood. I have met many amazing women, and I look forward to keeping those friendships and making new ones.

I volunteer because AST was the place in college that I was able to develop skills that have helped me in the “real world;” I learned leadership, conflict resolution, and diplomacy. So as a Chapter Adviser, I am able to help my young women develop these skills and dozens more. I love watching a shy new member transform into a skilled chapter leader. I get so excited when the chapters have an idea and they ask if they can implement it, I can say “go for it” and then watch the enthusiasm and dedication that is infectious in all of them.As an AST I also formed relationships that will last a lifetime and meet new sisters all the time that become lifelong friends. I enjoy watching the young women develop relationships with each other and I know in my heart what it will mean to them later. I am touched when I witness them rally around each other with support when a “stupid boy” has broken one of their hearts. Or when one of them is homesick, they stick by her the feeling passes. But the best is when they are happy and they all share in that happiness.

I volunteer because I love this organization and these women, and if I can make the smallest difference in their lives, it is worth it.

I have to say that I truly love what I do - helping to represent AST and promote our values. I have been afforded volunteer opportunities that have allowed me to give thanks to the Sorority for all that it has provided to me throughout my adult life. The opportunities for growth, leadership, and the ability to help our newer members understand what being a member of Alpha Sigma Tau means have added a dimension to my life that cannot be duplicated.

AST gave me wonderful friends and memorable times when I was in college. I have given back through volunteering with AST because I want to see the organization continue and to grow. I have met many wonderful women throughout the years I volunteered with AST from many chapters. I love how the bond of sisterhood was there whether I was a collegiate member or a District President or the New Member Coordinator.

From a very young age, my mother taught me to volunteer for anything I truly cared about and loved. She taught me the importance of volunteering, helping those in need, and open arms. From my days of riding along with her as we delivered fruit baskets to the needy in our hometown, to making tons of candies and cookies for local schools festivals, volunteering was a natural part of life. While my mom is no longer here, I continue to spread her legacy by volunteering for something I care about — Alpha Sigma Tau.
